The Shepley Group and Story Contracting recently worked together on the installation of a ‘respect barrier’ handrail for Cleator Moor Celtic FC’s junior team.
The requirement for a barrier was introduced by the Football Association as part of their Respect campaign and is designed to protect match officials and players from over-enthusiastic supporters. By installing a metal handrail rather than the typical fabric boundary, it gives the Club an opportunity to offer sponsorship hoardings which can be permanently mounted increasing vital revenue.
The project took four weeks in total, with cross-Group collaboration from West Cumberland Engineering and Shepley Engineers with a civil engineer from Story designing the concrete footings. The handrail itself was designed by Thomas Houghton, a design apprentice at West Cumberland Engineering, and was fitted by two apprentices, Colin Scott and James Doran from Shepley Engineers.
This project adds to the long list of grassroots and local amateur clubs that the Shepley Group support across a wide range of sports including cricket, football and rugby. Shepley Group strongly believe in the benefits that taking part in team sports bring to young people of. Apart from the obvious health benefits of being outdoors and active, they learn about teamwork, leadership and communication from a young age.
